Rep. Isaac Appointed to Firearms Manufacturers Recruitment Committee
Wednesday, July 30, 2014 • Posted July 31, 2014

AUSTIN – State Representative Jason Isaac has been appointed to the Joint Interim Committee to Study Recruitment of Firearms and Ammunition Manufacturers. He is one of seven members of the House who will be joined by a committee from the Senate to investigate and report on bringing manufacturers to the state.

Rep. Isaac stated, “The firearms and ammunition industry is responsible for more than $30 billion per year in total economic activity. As a state that is a leader in job creation and economic growth, as well as one that respects our Second Amendment rights, Texas is in a great position to attract these manufacturers. I am excited to be part of the committee tasked with bringing these companies, along with their jobs, to Texas.”

The Committee was created by the passage of House Concurrent Resolution 89 in the last legislative session. According to the resolution, companies that manufacture, distribute, and sell firearms, ammunition, and hunting equipment employ nearly 100,000 Americans, and it is estimated that they generate an additional 110,000 jobs in supplier and ancillary industries. As of 2013, jobs in the industry paid over $46,000 in wages and benefits on average, and despite a challenging economy, the industry created more than 26,000 jobs in the previous two years.
