HCM Welcomes New Hospitalist
Wednesday, August 13, 2014 • Posted August 14, 2014

On August 1, Hill Country Memorial welcomed Claudia Ubinas Frias, M.D., to its hospitalist program. As a hospitalist and internal medicine physician, Dr. Frias specializes in caring for patients who have been admitted to the hospital.

Just as cardiologists care for hearts and pediatricians care for children, a hospitalist is a specialist who oversees the daily care of patients in the hospital and coordinates such care with nurses, other specialists and primary physicians.

“Because a hospitalist like Dr. Frias is on site at all times, she is able to monitor patients’ progress, read test results immediately and order tests all in real time,” said James Partin, M.D., HCM Chief Medical Officer and director of the hospitalist program. “This kind of responsive care can reduce the time patients spend in the hospital.”

Dr. Frias graduated from the Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic in 2005 and completed her internal medicine residency at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn. this year. She has worked in medicine and medical education since 2001.
