Youth Show Starts Thursday, Jan. 24th

The Blanco County 4-H and FFA Youth Show to be held at the Blanco County Show Barn in Johnson City begins Thursday, Jan. 24th.

Doug Townsend will begin judging the 19 Shop Projects entered in this year’s show at 8:00 a.m. Rodney Green is Shop Project Superintendent. The grand champion and reserve grand champion Shop Projects will be sold through the sale on Saturday. The remainder of the projects will be for sale private treaty with the exhibitors.

Judging of poultry projects begins at 1:00 p.m. Rabbits, steers and lambs will follow with no set time. Superintendents are Poultry – Ed Crawford, Rabbits – Kip Thompson, Steers –Larry Scott, and Lambs – Melvin Moreland. Thursday’s judges are Poultry and Steers – Kevin Sells, Rabbits – Carol Hooks, and Lambs – Jimmy Missildine.

Friday’s judging of goats starts at 8:00 a.m., followed by hogs. Superintendents are Goats – Bubba Moeller, Hogs – Jack Harvey. Friday’s judges are Goats- Preston Faris, and Hogs – Kevin Thomas.

Gretchen Sanders, Blanco County CEA, along with local 4-H leaders will supervise Exhibit Hall projects Thursday and Friday. The five categories, Food, Sewing, Hobbies, Educational, Fine Art and Home Canned Products will be divided into Junior and Senior classes. Champion and Reserve Champion in each class along with the top 5 projects in each category will receive ribbons, prizes and prize money. Exhibit Hall projects will be sold through Silent Auction 3:00 to 5:00 on Friday and a Live Auction starting at 5:00. A reception will be held at 6:00.

Saturday’s activities begin with the little britches goat show at noon supervised by the Melvin Moreland Family, followed by the Premium Sale beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The Scholarship Committee will also be selling tickets for your chance to win one of the following –$850 Sportsman’s Warehouse Gift Certificate donated by Johnson City Bank, Arbor Seat donated and built by Blanco FFA, a Wok Cooker and also a Fire Ring built and donated by Johnson City FFA. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. The drawing will take place Saturday immediately following the sale. In the last four years this committee has awarded twenty one $1,000 scholarships to Blanco County youth through this fundraiser.
