Texas Sports Writer’s Association announced their picks for Class 2A All-State football team on January 27, 2009. Blanco running back Layton Dworaczyk was the area’s only second-team selection. Tight end Travis McClinton and defensive lineman Henry Greathouse were named on the third team. Derek Tesch, quarterback, was named honorable mention.

San Antonio Express News released their fall honor teams at the end of December.

In volleyball, Blanco High School junior Lacee Hunter, libero, was the only Blanco player to be named to class teams.

In football, Blanco players named to All-Area were:

First Team Defense: Lineman Henry Greathouse, junior, District 27-A Defensive MVP, starting center, had 61 tackles with two fumble recoveries.

Secondary: Kevin Gray, senior, rushed for 612 yards and 11 TDs

Second Team Defense: Secondary, Derek Tesch, senior

All-District Teams were also named.

District 27-2A: MVP – Derek Tesch, Offensive MVP – Layton Dworaczyk, Defensive MVP – Henry Greathouse.

First-team offense: RB Anthony Vela, senior; TE Travis McClinton, sophmore; L- Henry Greathouse, junior; Tyelr Berryhill, senior; Chase Howells, senior.

Second-team offense: RB Hunter Elrod, junior; WR Austin Deshane, senior; L – Lance Gottardy, senior; Shelby Moore, senior.

First-team defense: T Anthony Vela, senior; E Tyler Berryhill, senior; LB – Adrian Young, junior; Lance Gottardy, senior; Chase Howells, senior; B Dal Dechert, senior.

Second-team defense: E-David Hostetler, junior; Travis McClinton, sophomore; B John James Pepper, senior.
