City of Ember is a tale about a world that has been demolished and how the people had to dig underground to form a new city. The people who built the city, called The Builders, decided that after 200 years of being underground, it should be safe enough to go back to the top. They put the details of how to go about the process of making their way back to the top of the earth in a case that was sealed for 200 years and was handed down from one mayor to another. One year, a mayor died abruptly and the box was lost for some time; until his great great granddaughter found it in the back of a closet. Many people had attempted to leave the city to find their way back to earth, but it was so dark that nobody ever made it and many lost their lives trying. This girl and a friend of hers go through the box to try to put the pieces together and get out of the city. It’s falling apart, they are running out of food and the generator continues to black out. Each time it blacks out is a longer amount of time without light.

This is a very interesting concept and fun movie for the whole family. This isn’t one of the best movies ever, but it is one that you can just sit back and enjoy. 2 ½ paws

Keith-

The Rocker is a pleasant surprise this week and grabbed a special place in my heart since I’ve played drums for 25 years and have played in bands before.

The Office's Rainn Wilson plays a rockin’ drummer whose band just got a big record contract; except the deal only gets done if the record execs nephew gets to be the drummer.

After his band, Vesuvius, kicks him to the curb to be stars, drummer Robert "Fish" Fishman (Wilson) spends the next 20 years working in a cubicle and mourning what might’ve been, while Vesuvius goes on to fame, fortune, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After Fish loses his job, he moves in with his sister and her husband. As it turns out, Fish's nephew plays keyboards with a band playing for prom whose drummer just got suspended and have asked the “Fish” to fill in. After some convincing he agrees. After a bumpy start, their styles of hair metal and power-pop start to gel, and they hit it big when his niece puts a practice on youtube. They get to tour and the “Fish” acts like the rockstar he never got to be 20 years ago.

This is a hilarious movie that is full of laughs. 3 ½ paws
