Wednesday, February 18, 2009 • Posted February 17, 2009

The Master Gardener Association of Blanco County with the AgriLife Extension Service is pleased to present a program on Herbs and Earth-Kind Roses. Mary Nell Jackson, herb expert from Dallas, author and member of the Herb Society of America will be presenting, ‘A - Z Herbs for Your Garden’. Mary Nell will share her gardening expertise to help you create the herb garden you’ve always wanted. You will find out which herbs are best for your needs and how to incorporate them into small spaces and containers. If you do not believe you have the magic ‘green thumb’ Mary Nell will discuss the care and maintenance of these garden gems.

Roses are not only beautiful, but they are a fragrant herb. Think of introducing an Earth- Kind Rose into your herb garden. Earth Kind is an important name given to select roses by the Texas A&M University Agricultural program. Earth Kind Roses are among the most thoroughly tested and environmentally responsible plants for use in Texas landscapes, and they even grow in our Hill County conditions. Jim Meadows, a Master Gardener and Earth-Kind Rose specialist, will present a slide show about selecting and growing Earth Kind Roses.

The seminar will be held on Tuesday, February 24th at the First Methodist Church Activity Building from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. The Activity Building is located in Johnson City across from the LBJ Elementary School. We do request a $5.00 donation. There will be two breaks for coffee and refreshments.

The response to our previous seminars such as, Dr. Barron Rector’s on Environmental Horticulture and Susan Hamm’s and Susan Evans’s on Native Plants have been well received by the community. We plan to continue offering exceptional horticultural programs. There is no registration required for your attendance. Please call the extension office if you have any questions.
