PEC’s Partners in Learning donations benefit education
Wednesday, February 18, 2009 • Posted February 17, 2009

Pedernales Electric’s Partners in Learning program has awarded $1,000 to the Johnson City Community Education Foundation, which serves students enrolled in the Johnson City Independent School District.

“Students deserve to have engaging programs that cultivate a desire to excel in and out of the classroom,” said PEC Assistant General Manager Jeanell Davis. “Pedernales Electric supports local students in a variety of ways, and Partners in Learning is our chance to help make these programs possible through contributions to education foundations in our service area.”

These education foundations were established to benefit students in local school districts. The foundations fund innovative academic programs, grants and scholarships that otherwise would not exist.

Partners in Learning is part of PEC’s continuing effort to provide educational opportunities for area youths. Pedernales Electric also awards scholarships each year to high school seniors in its service area and is an annual sponsor of the Youth Tour Contest. This contest sends six local teens to Washington, D.C., to learn more about rural electric co-ops, visit national monuments and meet elected officials.

PEC members and other area residents can go to www.pec.coop for information about the Johnson City Community Education Foundation and learn how to make personal contributions to it or other area foundations.
