Wednesday, February 18, 2009 • Posted February 17, 2009

Recently, several members of the Blanco FFA and Blanco Jr. FFA exhibited livestock at the annual Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show in Kerrville. More than 2,000 animals were exhibited from across the Hill Country at this year’s show.

Leading the way for the local students was senior Claire Klepac, whose Hampshire breeding gilt took home breed champion honors. Claire also placed second with her Chester White gilt. Also placing high was Kaleigh Anderson. Kaleigh finished second with her American Breed Cross steer, in addition to placing fourth with her European Cross steer. Others placing in the steer show included: Shelby Moore, Katie Baker, Quaid Haack, Keaton Dodd, and Spencer Moore. In the lamb show, Alex Gustafson took home a seventh place ribbon, while Victoria Jones also competed in the lamb show, as well as the goat show. Finally, the market barrow show found several more local FFA members including Quaid Haack, Carlin Green, Joanna Delavan, Kristen Bowman, and Dalton Savanich.

These local FFA members, along with many others, have begun preparations for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition which began Thursday, February 5th and ends Sunday, February 22nd. The Blanco FFA Chapter will have more than 50 animals competing at this year’s show.

Advisors for the Blanco FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
