Youths Win Calf Scramble at San Antonio Rodeo

San Antonio –The calf scramble was held Thursday, February 12 at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo.

4-H and FFA youth competed for $800 certificates to purchase breeding animals to exhibit in the 2010 San Antonio Junior Livestock Show. Twelve certificates were awarded Thursday to those who caught a calf. One such winner was Grady Childress of Blanco, Texas. Childress is a 10th grader who participates in Blanco FFA. He plans to purchase a sheep with his award.

In another calf scramble, held on Monday, February 16 at the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo, the winner was Mindy Dechert of Blanco, Texas. Dechert is a 10th grader who participates in Blanco FFA. She plans to purchase a swine or sheep with her award.

In pursuit of its mission “Helping Youth Today So That Agriculture Can Grow Tomorrow,” the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has committed more than $79 million to youth education since 1984.
