Lila Gene Hobbs

Lila Gene Hobbs was born February 7, 1928 in Cypress Mill, TX to Herman F. and Esther Reed Wedekind Reiner. She went home to be with our Lord and Savior on February 27, 2009.

Lila Gene graduated from Johnson City High School in 1945 and went on to attend Tarleton State College in Stephenville, TX. She met the love of her life, William Barker Hobbs and was married March 7, 1947 in Austin, TX. The following years she engaged her life into being a loving wife to Bill, a nurturing mother to her two children, William Gary Hobbs and Marsha Gene Hobbs Andrews, and later a fun and loving grandmother.

Lila Gene was a devoted member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Cypress Mill, TX. She was a member of the Johnson City Order of the Eastern Star #376. Lila’s life was never so busy she couldn’t be a trusting friend. Those who knew her, knew she would always “be there”, regardless in good times or bad, and would always make things better with her humor and wit. She will truly be missed by her family and so many friends in the community.

Lila Gene was preceded in death by her father and mother, Herman F. and Esther R. Reiner, her husband of 55 years, William Barker Hobbs, and brother, Jack Reiner. She is survived by her son, William Gary Hobbs, daughter, Marsha Gene Hobbs Andrews and husband Mike, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, Fielding and Rita Reiner, sisters-in-law, Juanita “Teet” Hobbs, Grace Hobbs, Ima Hobbs, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Crofts Funeral Home, Johnson City where funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 4, 2009. Interment will follow in Cypress Mill Cemetery, Cypress Mill, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, or to the Cypress Mill Cemetery Assn., P.O. Box 34, Round Mountain, TX 78663. Pallbearers will be J.W. Smith, III, Owen Smith, Jerry Hobbs, Bruce Hobbs, Frank Haynes, Bradley Reiner, and Edgar Wayne “Tobe” Moreland.
