Blanco Cemetery Board Elects New Officers
Wednesday, March 4, 2009 • Posted March 3, 2009

Following the resignation of the former cemetery board members, the new board members wasted no time to reorganize, assess needs and elect new officers.

Meeting in the small building located on the cemetery grounds, a small group came together to discuss the most urgent needs of the cemetery.

Archiving, mowing, and volunteering were among the top concerns of the group.

Current bylaws were discussed and the necessity of each board member to help where needed was stressed.

Following discussion, David Key suggested that officers be elected. Because of the resignation of the former board, a new slate of officers was required. Instead of doubling up offices, it was decided that each position should be held by one person. The consensus was that not only would that make it easier for each person, but also would serve as a means to ensure that checks and balances could be made.

By acclimation the following were nominated and elected: Christina Gourley - President, Gayle McClelland - Vice President, Rebecca Howerton - Secretary/Historian, Dennis Moore - Treasurer, David Seymour - Superintendent, and Jake White - Maintenance Director.

Rebecca Howerton motioned that all be accepted and Gayle McClelland seconded it.

David Key and Diane Hostetler were appointed Alternate Board Members.

Tina Gourley said, “Everybody is a part of this. This project is absolutely a team effort.”

Also present were Retta Martin, Dorothy Dillon and TD Smylie.
