Select Baseball Team Seeking Old Cell Phones and Ink Cartridges
Wednesday, March 4, 2009 • Posted March 3, 2009

Texas Heat, a local 12 and under select baseball team with players from Blanco and Johnson City have been selected to compete at Cooperstown Dreams Park in the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame Invitational Tournament during the week of July 18.

This is a golden opportunity for these young men to be able to play in a week long tournament. The team will also get to tour the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, see a game at Doubleday Field and meet other teams from around the world.

The team is required to pay their own way, and are asking for assistance. However, they are not asking for money.

They are asking that people donate used cell phones and inkjet cartridges to help raise funds. They will receive money from Phoneraiser for each item collected during this fundraiser. Phoneraiser is a company that specializes in recycling and refurbishing used technology.

Your donation will help protect the environment. Your unwanted cell phones and inkjet cartridges will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or refurbished and reused. Phoneraiser makes your unneeded technology available to those who can use it, while keeping it out of the landfill. If improperly disposed of, the cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of drinking water.

“We’re very excited about this program,” says Marilyn Gray. “This recycling program not only benefits Texas Heat Baseball, but assists in preserving the environment and bringing communications to people who could not otherwise afford it.”

All cell phones and inkjet cartridges are accepted. Please donate at the following locations Super S Foods, Blanco Hydro Gas Co., Inc., Johnson City Hydro Gas Co., Inc., Cattleman’s Bank, Blanco National Bank, Johnson City Bank, PEC Corporate Office, and Advance Copier Store.
