Wednesday, March 4, 2009 • Posted March 3, 2009

The Hill Country Spurs 4-H Horse Judging Teams traveled to San Angelo February 27, 2009 for their second contest of the year. The San Angelo Stock Show Horse Judging Contest was held Saturday, February 28, and although it was a three and a half hour trip, it was a blast, and everyone did a great job!

Our top scorer, Shelbi Haynes of Johnson City, won first place in the junior division for the second time at San Angelo. Junior team number one, including: Shelbi Haynes, Kendra Smith, Amara Yachimski, and Lydia Yachimski won the 4-H Junior Division. Junior team number two, including: Ava Begay, Avery Klepac, Leighton Klepac, and Kayla Scheidt, came in fourth place overall. All of our teams did a great job! Bailey Zoeller, Elizabeth O’Day and Tyler Brown make up our senior team and they continue to rise in the ranks at each contest. Taylor Kay, Corey Gathright and Audrea Johnson make up team number four and they are all doing well and improving with each contest. Rilee Whittington-Moser, Ceslea Pattillo and Harleigh Klepac made up junior team number three. Team number three is on their first year in horse judging and they are blazing the trail to the top.

While in San Angelo, we had the pleasure of meeting Rick Skelton, eight time World Roping Champion. He took the time to give us autographs and join in a group photo with us. Wish us luck as we head to our next competition this coming Monday in Houston! We will keep you informed of the outcome.

The Hill Country Spurs meet the third Tuesday of each month at the Blanco County Exhibit Hall in Johnson City at 6:30pm. Please join in on the fun and celebration of our victory. We also have an organized ride on the first Tuesday of each month. This month we will meet at Yett Park in Blanco at 6:30pm. World Champion Barrel Racer, Tami Purcell, will train on running the poles. Hope to see you there.
