Donal Lavon Culpepper
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 • Posted March 10, 2009

Donal Lavon Culpepper went home to be with her Lord on March 8, 2009. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin on March 3, 1922, grew up in New Orleans and met her beloved husband, Charles Culpepper Jr., at Southwestern Baptist Seminary. After marriage in 1944 they moved to China as Baptist missionaries, but had to leave in 1949 when the communist government won the civil war. The Culpeppers eventually moved to Taiwan where they lived and served the Lord for over 40 years. Donal was instrumental in starting churches among different Chinese communities, teaching music and English to seminary wives, and managing the Baptist Bookstores in Taiwan. She and Charles retired to their much loved property south of Blanco in 1985, where Donal was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be missed by members of the First Baptist Church of Blanco where she taught Sunday School and was active in visitation and WMU. Many remember her wit, her generosity of spirit and most of all, her love for God.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Culpepper Jr., and is survived by her brother Bob Jones and his wife Ruby; four children: Tom Culpepper and his wife Susan, Carolyn Neunuebel and her husband Ed, Richard Culpepper and his wife Dana and Cathy McGinnis and her husband Terry; 10 grandchildren: Coleman Culpepper and his wife Jill, Kristin Neunuebel, Rachel Wheat and her husband Ed, Anna Neunuebel, Sarah Culpepper, Carolyn Caudle and her husband Andy, Cheryl McGinnis, Tessa McGinnis, Daniel Culpepper, and Shea McGinnis; and five great-grandchildren, soon to be six. She will be deeply missed as a loving and unique child of God.

The family requests that any memorials be given to The Second Mile Young Life Organization of Blanco, in care of First Baptist Church, Blanco, Texas.

The funeral will be on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Blanco, Texas. Visitation at Crofts Funeral Home, Blanco, on Friday March 13, 2009, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, family being present from 5:00pm onwards.
