Dear Readers:

Willie and Elizabeth Garcia of Blanco, Texas recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Friday, March 20! They were married on the first day of Spring in 1944! The couple live in Chimney Valley where they raise goats and chickens. Additionally, Willie, who is a World War II Army Veteran, celebrates his 88th birthday Friday, March 27th! His family will join him for a birthday lunch followed by a special Mass at St. Ferdinand! Happy 88th Birthday to Mr. Garcia!

Ada Cooley’s 90th birthday is Saturday, March 28. They are having a celebration at Trinity Lutheran Church - go and give her a big hug! She looks “much younger than her stated age (that’s what doctors say).”

Don’t forget The Friends of the Library’s (Chinese) Dinner and a Movie Friday night at the courthouse. The dinner is being catered by Sibby Barrett, and she never makes ANYTHING bad. Sally Wall’s family came to visit about a month ago - Sally wrote down the information for me, but I forgot what she wrote it on so it didn’t get in the paper in a timely fashion, but they were here, and a good time was had by all!!

Pearlie Greebon is looking exceptionally fine - it is nice to see that she is able to get out again.

Cut N Curls got a lovely outside spring cleaning - Larry was hard at it when I saw him last. Don’t forget they have a tanning booth - 5 dollars a session and no contract! Just pop in, tan, and pop out (like a toaster)!

Lenten luncheons are going on, and you can’t go wrong with the food. Each church always has something delicious.

Don’t forget - the library has an ongoing book sale - 25 cents for paperbacks and 50 cents for hardbacks. They also have VHS items, CDs, and DVDs.

KINKY FRIEDMAN WILL BE HERE NEXT SATURDAY, April 4, at the Courthouse, to speak and to sell and autograph books. Let’s give him a big Blanco welcome and fill the courthouse. For you cigar smokers, he will have his own Utopian cigars for sale as well. You can basically spend the whole day around town - Kinky will be here from 1-4, from 4:30-7:00 is the FISH FRY, and that night there is a dance at Twin Sisters!!!

Don’t forget the VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT FISH FRY - there has never been a dessert there I didn’t like (or it didn’t like me)! The food is always wonderful and the people are swell.

Special thoughts to the Emmaus ladies this weekend - they know who they are.

Welcome home, Joe Baker (son of Greg and Roberta)! He is back from Iraq, and boy, did they have a great party for him last Saturday night! We had some fun.

Last but not least - Happy 81st Birthday to my mom - love you.

Special News from Live Oak Nursing Home:

Live Oak Nursing Home had special guests come by to sing for them. They were the Miller Creek RV Singers. They came out on February 23rd at 3:00pm and sang a medley of country western and closed with two favorite spiritual songs. They then passed out cookies and punch they so generously brought to share with the residents.

On March 12th, Live Oak had their monthly Birthday Party. Dorothy Dillon came and we all enjoyed an hour of old favorites and Irish tunes. Dorthy Trophy Cakes were served with ice cream and punch. Happy Birthday was sung to Maxine Wagner, Etelka Rust, Dorothy Reynolds, Lois Wick, and Roy Mays. Gifts from Blanco National Bank were delivered by Rebecca Howerton and passed out to honorees with birthday balloons.

Darlene Kiernan and Dorothy Dillon came by on March 17th for our St. Patrick’s Day social and sang a medley of Irish tunes while cookies, ice cream and punch was served.
