Annual Trash Off to be Held April 4
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 • Posted March 31, 2009

Blanco's 10th Annual Trash-Off Day and 3rd Annual Blanco River Cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 4 from 8:00am to 12 noon. Local residents are urged to take part by taking unwanted items to the city yard on Jones Avenue, next to the recycling center.

Just about anything will be accepted except tires, batteries, electronics, chemicals, motor oil and cooking oil. Tires should be taken to a recycling center for tires, batteries (including small batteries) can be taken to NAPA, motor and cooking oil can be taken to the recycling center on Jones Road, chemicals and electronics will have to be held until Blanco County holds a hazardous waste day or check the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality website, TCEQ.com for locations in other towns and cities that have permanent collection centers.

Persons may discard brush, wires, tin and metal along with household items such as sofas, chairs, refrigerators, washers and dryers, etc.

The annual "Trash Off" is the signature event across the nation for the Great American Cleanup. Keep Blanco Beautiful and the City of Blanco sponsor the Blanco event and work together to make this event a success. Our goal is to have a litter and junk free city to live in and be proud of.

All volunteer teams who have signed up for the "Trash Off" and the "Blanco River Cleanup" should gather at 8:00am at the Old Blanco County Courthouse to meet with their team leaders and pick up their supplies and t-shirts. Hotdogs and nachos will be served for lunch. Each team's members will have a chance to draw for prizes.

Persons, especially the elderly who need items picked up, should call City Hall now at 833-4525 to be placed on the list. We will have 4 trailers scouring the neighborhoods to collect items placed at the curb.

As a reminder, this event is for the residents of Blanco only and a recent water bill should be presented at the city yard when bringing your items to dump. In case of rain, the event will be held the next Saturday.
