March 28, 1969

Mr. and Mrs. Benny Arnold Edmondson are the proud parents of a baby girl, Lora Suzette, born February 19.

Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Warren Edmondson of San Antonio.

Rain Drowns Blanco meet

March 30, 1979

Blanco Schools Athletic Director Ron Barr announced yesterday afternoon that the “Little Panther Relays” junior high track meet scheduled for Saturday would have to be postponed, as the continued rains have made Panther Stadium’s dirt track too wet to run on this weekend.

Cynthia Grandberg Gets First Rating

March 28, 1969

Cynthia Grandberg, Blanco High School Junior, received a first division rating for a piano solo at the Region XL Choral and Piano Contest in Uvalde last Saturday, Cynthia is a piano student of Miss Mary Anderson.

Cynthia will now be eligible to compete in the State solo Ensemble Contest to be held in Austin June 2-3. Cynthia is also a member of the Blanco High School Band and served as accompanist for many solos and ensembles in this year’s solo ensemble contest held in Blanco.

Local spikes to form league

March 29, 1989

A volleyball league composed of mixed three-man, three-woman teams is now being formed in Blanco County, announced Patty Cortez.

Tentative plans are for games to be played at Blanco High Gymnasium from April through June.

Sponsorship will cost $20 per team. Deadline for entering a team is April 7. Anyone wishing to sponsor a team, gets up a team or needing further information, should contact Patty at 885-7677 after 5:30 p.m. or write to her at Box 38, Blanco.

County secretary chosen

March 30, 1979

County Judge Kent Smith announced that Melissa Rippey, 18, of Smitherwick, had been selected as the new county judge and commissioner’s court secretary, effective April2.

Miss Rippey is a recent graduated of Marble Falls High School. Her work will be funded under the CETA program.

Judge Smith expressed disappointment in the effect that only two applications from Blanco County residents had been received “and on e was not qualified and the other got another job before the decision was made.”

Clinic Thursday

March 30, 1979

A Public Health Clinic for immunization against polio, measles, mumps. Rubella, diphtheria, peruses and tetanus will be held on Thursday, April 5, between 10:00 a.m. and 12 noon at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Parish Hall on Highway 281 in Blanco.

Navarro track meet results

March 29, 1989

Last Thursday a scaled-down boy’s and girl’s track team traveled to Navarro to compete in this re-scheduled meet. The original track meet had been set for March 4th, but due to bad weather had to be cancelled.

The track team travels to Wimberley on Saturday to compete in the Texan Relays.
