Wednesday, April 1, 2009 • Posted March 31, 2009

David Chick Lowe passed away February 18, 2009 at his home on the Chick Ranch in Blanco, Texas. David was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 5, 1932. He lived 76 wonderful years. At David’s request, he was cremated; in a beautiful celebration of his life, his ashes were spread on the Chick Ranch he loved so dearly.

David lived in Corpus Christi with his mother, Catherine Chick Lowe (later Catherine Lyons), and father, Floyd Lowe, until his father was killed in an accident when David was 5 years old. In 1937, David and his mother moved to the Chick Ranch to be with family during this difficult time. David lived on the Chick Ranch as a child, and attended the one-room (Twin Sisters) School House on the Little Blanco River. In the 1940s, David and his mother moved to Laredo, Texas when she got a job with the U.S. Customs Department. They eventually found their way back to the Chick Ranch where David attended Blanco High School. As an adult, David spent time in Alaska after joining the Air Force. He later married and had four children. David and his family lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from the early 1960s through the late 1970s. In the 1980s and 1990s, David’s job required that he live in Utah, Michigan, and Pittsburgh. Upon retirement, David followed his heart and once again found his way back to the Chick Ranch.

David was a kind and wonderful man with a quick wit and a keen sense of humor. He had a gift for loving life and living it to the fullest. He continued to enjoy life until the day he died. David was incredibly generous and was always there to lend a helping hand. He put other’s needs before his own. Some of his favorite things were family, visiting with good friends, good stories, good food, good wine, photography, and performing magic tricks – he truly knew how to enjoy life. Many love David; many miss David. We are comforted knowing that he is with God now. His loving memory will live on forever through all the people his life touched.

David is survived by his wife, Wanda Lowe, his four children and their spouses, Cathy (and Stuart) Shaw, Connie Chick, Donna (and Steve) LaPiana, John (and Shirley) Lowe, his grandchildren, Laura (and Brett) Hafer, Thomas Shaw, Emily Shaw, Cove Chick, Alex LaPiana, great-grandchild, Audrey Hafer, and his lifelong, dear friends Roy and Birdie Lee Bruemmer.
