UIL Academic Team Named District Champions
Wednesday, April 8, 2009 • Posted April 7, 2009

The Blanco High School UIL Academic Team clinched the District 27AA Championship on Thursday, April 2nd in Blanco.

BHS scored a total of 469.66 sweepstakes points to outdistance second-place Randolph by 186 points.

The 27 students from Blanco who placed first, second, or third will compete at the UIL Region IV-AA Academic Meet at Texas State University in San Marcos on April 24-25. Teams who placed first in the district meet will also represent BHS. Fourth place students will serve as alternates at the meet.

“We had a very successful day with students in all four grades significantly contributing to the win,” said UIL academic coordinator Russell Kirkscey. “We had good leadership from the seniors. However, five ninth graders also had top-six finishes. I think this continuity is important to the program.”

Academic coaches are Howard Seltzer, Bill Spurgin, Russell Kirkscey, Judy Hinnant, Holly Vogt, Marie Graham, and Gina Blankenburg.
