This is a bitter-sweet movie about a dog that is basically terrible and can’t be trained. If you remember the movie Turner and Hooch with Tom Hanks, you’ll probably like this movie. Marley and Me starts out with a newly wed couple that decide to take the next step and adopt a puppy; and not just any puppy, a clearance puppy (one point here that bothered me is that they never said why he was a clearance puppy). They attempt to train Marley, but he is just too unruly and rambunctious. The movie goes through the lives as a couple, then as a family and shows the ups and downs of any typical family that has ever had a dog and how Marley affects their lives.

The first hour and a half (to me) was perfect. It was funny and emotional at times and made you know why we love dogs. But then the last 30 minutes just HAD to happen and then it all went down hill from there. One piece of advice: if you want to enjoy a great movie without the depressing and tearful ending, watch all of it until about 30 minutes from the end and you will be left with a happy note. But if you watch all of it and end up like me, with a stack of wadded up tissues next to you, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
