By Connie Barron, Volunteer Coordinator

Can you believe that almost a year has gone by since Blanco’s last fabulous Lavender Festival? It’s true, and in about 50 days the festivities will begin again. This year’s event will be even bigger and better with something for everyone.

What many of you might not know is that festival volunteers have some of the best times. If you helped out last year, you know it’s true, and if you didn’t, here’s your chance. Our volunteer training is set for Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30pm at the Courthouse, and you are all invited!

This year, we need even more volunteers because the 2009 Blanco Lavender Festival (June 12-14), begins on Friday, with farm tours from 10am - 4pm, Market from 3pm - 8pm and a Friday night street dance from 6pm -10pm (all Friday activities are new)!

If you love sharing Blanco’s history, work in the courthouse. Wine and beer enthusiasts will have a great time helping serve libations.

If you have ever wanted to be a concierge at a five-star hotel, try your skills in the information booth.

Greet and support our guest speakers at the speakers’ pavilion, or play roadie helping with the musicians. How about playing “roving reporter” as part of the survey team?

Be on the square or at one of the lavender farms as a Lavender Ambassador. These are just a few choices. There are jobs just right for everyone ranging from those who need to sit to those who can’t sit still. Whatever you decide to do you will have a blast, support your community and get a really cool T-shirt and goody bag (thanks to our sponsors).

This is a great opportunity to have a group or team activity. Sign up your co-workers for a company shift.

How about your book club or gardening group? If out-of-town friends are staying with you to attend the festival, have them earn their keep by volunteering with you.

Most shifts are three or four hours long. Don’t worry, you will get any necessary training so you will be ready to have fun the minute you arrive at your post.

To sign up, simply drop by the Chamber of Commerce office (Mon.-Fri. 9-3). If you can’t come by, call 830-833-5101 or email your hours, days and contact information to blanco@moment.net.

Let’s have some fun and make this the best Blanco Lavender Festival yet. Did I mention the free t-shirt?
