Stonewall, TX – On Saturday, May 2, Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park and the Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park are teaming up to re-create an authentic 1964 barbecue on the banks of the Pedernales River just as President and Mrs. Johnson did during the presidential years on the LBJ Ranch.
This special event begins at 5:00pm with a social hour of country music by the Bret Graham Band, exhibits, food and drinks. At 6:00pm, the program begins with the presentation of VIP guests including representatives from the government of Mexico, and a special performance by “Los Hijos de Janitzio” who perform cultural dances of Mexico. The dancers will be followed by a performance of the traditional music by Mariachi “L” of Boerne, Texas. The original 1964 Head of State barbecue was hosted by the Johnsons to honor President-elect of Mexico and Mrs. Gustavo Diaz Ordaz on November 12, 1964.
After the exciting show, a dinner of barbecue “LBJ style” will be served as the sun lowers across the river and old country western favorites are presented by the Bret Graham Band.
This magical evening is by reservation only. Reservations may be made by mail or online at www.FriendsofLBJNationalPark.org . The barbecue is a major fundraiser for the Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, who support the park by funding activities and educational opportunities to the public. The cost for this event is $50.00 per adult ($40.00 per adult if you are a Friends member) and $25.00 for children 12 and under. Tables seating 8 may be reserved for $500.00, which includes the cost of tickets for 8. For more information, please call (830) 868-7128, extension 222 or 244.
