Legion Celebrates 50th Anniversary

April 25, 1969

The Blanco American Legion Post No. 352 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Legion Saturday, April 26 at the L.C. Johnson Park honoring all its senior members.

Barbecue will be served at 5:00 p.m. All members are cordially invited to attend.

Altar Society Sponsors dinner

April 27, 1979

The St. Ann’s Altar Society of St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church will sponsor a Bar-B-Que Chicken Dinner with all the trimmings, on Sunday, May 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Parish Hall. Tickets are not on sale.

You may purchase them from Church members or at the door. The process per plate will be $3.00 and $2.00.

Fellowship day

Church Women United in Blanco Count will celebrate May Fellowship Day on Friday, May 4th, with a salad luncheon and service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blanco at 11:30 a.m.

Summer Camp

April 27, 1979

Summer camping is again being held this year at the Texas 4-H Center in Brownwood. Some exciting activities you may participate in are canoeing, archery, volleyball, outdoor cookery, tennis, dancing, campfire activities, and fishing.

Camping beings on July 15, so call us soon if you wish to attend.

A small fee covers lodging and meals for 4 days.

Sweepstake is Goal of Blanco Panther Band

April 25, 1969

The Blanco High School Band will be one of 28 bands entered in the Region XI, Interscholastic League Concert Contest that is being held in Fredericksburg this Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26. The Blanco Band will perform Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.

The band has prepared three numbers for adjudication. They are: “March Lamar” by Clifton Williams; “Welsh Folk Suit” by Albert O. Davis and “Fanfare, Pastoale and Serenade” by Robert Starer.

The band will be trying for its third consecutive sweepstakes award. Fredericksburg is the only other band in the region that has won more consecutive awards.

The public is invited to attend.

Blanco JC

April 27, 1979

Representatives of the Junior Chamber of Commerce from Austin will hold a meeting in Blanco tonight, attempting to form a local JayCee chapter after chartering one in Johnson City earlier this week.

A meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Crofts Funeral Home. All men between the ages of 18 and 36 are invited to attend.

Qualify for State

April 27, 1979

The Senior livestock team, Stacey Reiner, Pam Meier, Jimmy Hobbs and Janet Dechert will represent Blanco County and District 10 at the State 4-H Contest in College Station on June 5th and 6th.

Stacey Reiner was third high individual in District judging contest.

Sports Banquet Slated May 2

April 25, 1969

Plans are taking shape for an all-sports banquet to be held at the Blanco School Cafeteria next Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. At that time all of the Blanco High School students that have participated in sports events (both boys and girls) will be honored.

Forrest Wiegand, the starting center for the University of Texas Longhorns, will be the principle speaker of the evening. The program will be MC’d by Rev. Joel Harvey, pastor of the Blanco Baptist Church.

The meal will consist of turkey and dressing with all the trimmings. Tickets for the event are available at the Blanco Confectionery, Blanco Bowling Club, Mrs. Monta Knoll and at the School Superintendent’s office. All tickets are $1.25 each. The public is invited.
