Blanco Panthers Softball Claims the 2009 District Championship

The Lady Panthers played Harper and Johnson City this past Friday and Saturday, defeating both teams with a combined score of 26-1. The Panthers defeated Harper 15-0 in 2 innings of play. Highlights: Rachel Calzoncit faced 6 batters in 2 innings, striking out all six; Chandler Ashley pitched one inning and allowed no hits and no runs. Offensively, Rachel Calzoncit and Carla Martinez both had a single and a double; Alex Gustafson had a triple, and Lacee Hunter, Symbri McCarroll, Megan Brown, Hillary Calzoncit and Hillary Tidwell each had a single.

On Saturday, the Lady Panthers defeated Johnson City 11-1 in 5 innings of play. Highlights: Rachel Calzoncit faced 11 batters allowing only one hit, one run, struck out one, and let only one walk. Offensively, Lacee Hunter was 2 for 2 with a homerun, single and BB, scoring 3 runs with 3 RBI’s; MacKenzie Ray was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and 1 run; Rachel and Hillary Calzoncit both had a single.

The Panther Softball team finished the regular season 18-8 overall, and 5-1 in district play. Congratulation to the 2009 Blanco Softball team.

The Panthers will face either Salado (25-AA) or Halletsville/East Bernard (26-AA) next week.
