Annual Bluegrass & Country Gospel Music Festival a Success Despite the Rain

The Blanco Canyon Gospel Group, The Fraternal Order of Eagles and Jerry and Deanna Dosser appreciates our sponsors, support staff and volunteers for their help in making the 1st Annual Bluegrass & Country Gospel Music Festival a success. The event went on as scheduled, by the use of the upstairs of the Old Blanco County Courthouse in spite of the rainy weather. Although we were unable to set up the 53' stage outside, the Courthouse stage provided a comfortable alternative to host the event.

The weather did not keep the bands from showing up and playing to the approximately 400 people that came to clap, sing and smile along with them. The band included local favorites: The Blanco Canyon Gospel Group, The Onion Creek Band, Gene and LaVada Triesch and The Jubilee Singers. Also present were several bands from the surrounding areas: The Blue Creek Bluegrass Band, The Cowboys for Jesus Band, Don and Wanda Bryant and The Lone Man Mountain Boys. We appreciate all the wonderful music you presented.

We are especially grateful to Bobby and Julie Timmons, Little Bobby Timmons, Stacie Timmons, Camille Zody and Don Thompson for their hard work in preparing and serving the fabulous bar-b-que meal that the Eagles provided for the musicians and listeners. We are also grateful for Gwendolyn Reynolds, Sherri Bouchie, Pete and Mattie Wilson and Michele Wilson for their willingness to help in whatever area they were needed, such as the setting up and tearing down of the days event. Robert Franklin and Justin Franklin of Big Tex Paving were a huge help in the overseeing of the shuttle service from the Eagles Hall to the Courthouse for the musicians and Matt Bible, who willingly stayed at the Eagles Hall all day in case something was needed. Let us not forget Al Turner, our local "That Other Guy", who at the last minute built speaker boxes for use with the outside stage. We were unable to use these outside on that day, but they will be used at the Eagles Hall with our new outside Bandstand. And if you have not had the opportunity to deal with Lesley Griffin at the Old Blanco Courthouse, you are missing out. We greatly appreciate her help in renting the space necessary to host the Festival.

Cory McMain was the "voice" for the days event. Cory was spectacular as the Master of Ceremonies for the Festival. Not only did he introduce each band, he provided each sponsor their own "commercial" many times over during the interim times between bands. Thanks Cory for a job well done!

The day would have been pretty quiet without the sound provided by Robbie Llanos and Brenda Robinette of Lava Loca Productions. We appreciate such professional and well attended sound control.

And of course the Music Festival could not have taken place without the donations of our sponsors. Through their generosity, we were able to cover the expenses of the festival, make donations to local charities, aid some of the bands with their expenses and provide the community with what we hope to be an annual event.

We give all the glory to the Lord our God and to Him we give praise! Look for more musical events coming up and God bless you all.
