Skype Helps Bring Second Graders Closer to Saudi Arabia
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 • Posted May 12, 2009

On Monday, May 4th, the second graders at Blanco Elementary were able to have a conversation with Dal Hunter and his colleague, Abdulaziz Kaabi. What made this conversation so interesting is that Mr. Hunter and Mr. Kaabi were in Damman, Saudi Arabia at the time!

By using the Internet program “Skype,” the second graders were able to have a video conversation right from their classroom. The kids were able to ask questions about food, weather, and landforms. They also learned about the eight-hour time difference and that the children in Saudi Arabia begin school at age seven.

The kids really enjoyed seeing and being able to ask questions directly to someone from another country. This was a great opportunity for the kids, not only to be exposed to new technology but to other parts of the world.
