Last Thursday, Blanco lost a vibrant friend of the community. David Key passed away after suffering a sudden severe seizure days earlier.

David's home, Treetops Ranch, where he lived with his partner Armando Pena, is known for its collection of memorabilia from David's career in ballroom dancing. Each piece had a story, which David would gladly share.

The home, along with its grounds and gardens lovingly maintained by Armando, were host to parties and fund raisers frequently mentioned in the Blanco County News. David hosted soirees attended by fascinating people from Blanco County and abroad.

David supported the beautification of Blanco, hosting the enjoyable and successful Keep Blanco Beautiful fund raiser at Treetops Ranch in 2006. He also donated a historic Texas map to the Blanco Library and recently became an alternate board member of the historic Blanco Cemetery when the new board was elected.

The David Key Lamplighter Project for the Blanco Square was introduced last year during his 65th birthday celebration. The project will continue in memory of David's work with Blanco.
