Lavender Capital of Texas® Flags wave over Blanco
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 • Posted May 19, 2009

Last week and in the weeks to come, Blanco businesses and residents proudly wave lavender flags donning Blanco’s 2006 designation as the Lavender Capital of Texas®.

The City of Blanco was the first to hang their flag, after it was presented to them by the Blanco Chamber of Commerce at the May 12 city council meeting. Blanco’s new mayor, Tina Gourley, proudly displayed her flag at the 1959 Blanco High School 50th Reunion, which was hosted at the Gourley’s home this past weekend.

Over 30 flags were purchased, which are 3’ by 5’ in size, and come with an aluminum pole. Residents and businesses my still purchase a flag and pole for $75 from the Blanco Chamber of Commerce, while supplies last.

In addition to the flag, merchants and residents are encouraged to turn on their purple Christmas lights during the month of June.
