Wimberley “Friends” To Hold Huge Book Sale
Wednesday, October 17, 2007 • Posted October 16, 2007

The Friends of the Wimberley Village Library is a volunteer support group for the local Library there. On several occasions it has held Book Sales, converting donated materials and items no longer needed by the library into hard cash. The cash in turn is used to support Library activities and purchase new materials for the shelves.

The Friends will hold an enormous Book Sale on November 3, 2007at the Chapel in the Hills, on Ranch Road 12 near downtown Wimberley, across from the Dairy Queen. Due to the quantity of materials available, the Friends are expecting this Book Sale to be their best ever. With this Sale also occurring on a Market Day – Wimberley hosts a huge flea market the first Saturday of each month – shoppers can double their pleasure by visiting both nearby events.

Lynda Blakistone, chairwoman of the Book Sale Committee for the Friends noted that “This time we will have a best selection ever of items for sale. Hardbacks, paperbacks, first editions, histories, biographies, nonfiction, cookbooks, children’s books… you name it, we’ll have it.” Books will be organized by sections, and for the first time, the Sale will be held indoors. Blakistone noted, “In past Sales, the weather has been a factor. It was rainy, or too windy, or too cold, or too hot. We’ve fixed that this time.”

The Friends of the Wimberley Village Library was formed in 2006 and comprises only one of the volunteer programs supporting the Library. The Library itself has only 8 paid staffers and relies on volunteers to man the front desk, shelve books, and perform a number of tasks necessary for operation. In a few short years, the Wimberley Village Library has grown from a tiny operation to a modern, well-equipped library with continuously updated reading materials, personal computers, WiFi, database access, community literacy programs, and more.
