JV Panthers Fall to Bobcats in District Opener

The Blanco JV Panther football team went up against the Comfort Bobcats on Thursday, October 11 for the district opener.

The Panthers stands gasped as the Panthers had the ball in the opening few minutes of the game when Corey Dowlearn fumbled the ball, then you could hear the cheer as he recovered his own fumble. With 4:02 left on the clock Austin Deshane caught a pass from Travis McClinton to put the first six points on the scoreboard. The two-point conversion was no good.

It did not take long for the Bobcats to strike back as they ran the ball into the endzone for six points to tie up the game, the Bobcats then kicked the extra point to take the lead with a score Comfort 7, Blanco 6.

With the time ticking off the clock McClinton passes the ball down the field to Deshane to put the Panthers in good field range for a touchdown. The buzzer went off to end the quarter and it was time to switch ends.

The Panthers continued to inch their way to the endzone as Dowlearn runs the ball into the endzone with 9:51 left on the clock. The two point conversion pass from McClinton to Kyle Homes was incomplete leaving the score Blanco 12, Comfort 7.

Comfort struck back with 6:49 on the clock with a six point run to make the game a one point game once again.

The Panthers could not get the ball into the red zone after the Bobcats second score, so Austin Carrola kicked a 40 yard punt to give the ball back over to Comfort.

Deshane deflected a pass for a touchdown on a Comfort third down, but Comfort then turned around and ran the ball into the endzone with only 1:38 left on the clock the extra point kick was no good.

The ball was kicked back over to the Panthers but Blanco could not move the ball down the field so it went back over to the Bobcats once again.

During the fourth down for the Bobcats, they decided to passes, but John James Pepper was in the right spot at the right time to get an interception, after a hard hit Pepper fumbled the ball but Dowlearn recovered the ball and the halftime buzzer went off leaving a score of Comfort 19, Blanco 12.

The Panther defense came out strong in the third quarter, while the Panther offense scored once again as Holmes caught a pass from McClinton with 3:41 on the board, two point conversion was no good. This made the score Blanco 18, Comfort 19.

Comfort received the ball back, Comfort then had a successful pass play as the quarter back passed the ball 30 yards and the receiver who ran the ball 25 yards, only two yards from a touchdown before Deshane tackled him. On the next play the Bobcats scored again and the two point conversion was good making the score Comfort 27, Blanco 18.

The Panthers got the ball back on offense and with a 35 yard pass play from McClinton to Deshane

who ended up on the nine yard line as the buzzer went off to end the quarter.

The Panthers picked up where they left off and a hand off to Dowlearn who ran the ball in for a Panther touchdown. The two point conversion was carried in by McClinton to make the score Blanco 26, Comfort 27. Comfort stuck back fast as they scored a touchdown with 6:29 on the clock. The Panthers put everything they could into the last six minutes of the game but could not score again.

The game ended with a final score Comfort 35, Blanco 26.
