Blood Donors to be Listed by Homemakers

June 27, 1969

The Blanco Young Homemakers are helping to establish a list of possible blood donors for the Blanco community.

Mrs. Marge McDonald, assistant by Mrs. Juanita Smith, will do the typing.

If you are in good health and between the ages of eighteen and sixty, you may have your blood type on Thursday, July 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Blanco school cafeteria.

Driver’s License Schedule

June 27, 1969

A driver’s license examiner will be in the District Courthouse in the courthouse in Johnson City in the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.

Washington, D.C.

June 29, 1979

Lynnette Love, senior to be at Blanco High School, will be one of the 195 Texas Delegates attending the 1979 Future Homemakers of America National Youth Leadership Meeting there July 9-12.

Representing more than 65,000 members of the Texas FHA Association, she will be among approximately 2,000 delegates throughout the nation attending the four-day conference.

Lynnette is representing her local FHA chapter as its president and the Area IV organization as its vice president in charge of programs. She is the first Blanco delegate to attend the National meeting in eight years.

Accompanying Area VII delegates to Washington will be Joe and Carol Summy. Mrs. Summy is one of five advisors attending from Area VII.

Our Servicemen

June 27, 1969

U.S. Air Force Sgt. Frank R. Bushing, whose wife, Christine, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Moore, Blanco, is a member of the Aerospace Defense Command’s 28th Air Division that has won the General Frederic H. Smith Trophy.

The 28th, headquartered at Malstrom AFB, Montana, was selected as the best ground defense unit within the command. The units helps maintain are surveillance over the United States.

Sergeant Bushong, a computer repairman, is assigned to the 4642 Support Squadron at Malmstrom.

The sergeant is a 1963 graduate of Leesville (LA) High School.

Hill Country Baseball

June 27, 1969

Blanco won over Comfort on June 22 in the Hill Country League by a score of 11 to 9. Danny Brodbeck pitched three innings with Wallace Dechert relieving him.

Blanco will play the Klasing team at Helotes on Sunday, June 29, at 3:00 p.m.

Fred Banks and Wallace Dechert were chosen by the six team league managers to play in the All-Star Game against the leading team, Helotes, on July 4th at 3:00 p.m. Independence Day.

Engagement Told

June 27, 1969

Mrs. Viola Neill is announcing the engagement of Miss Judith Kay Barker of Gary Strain of Waukegan, Ill.

The wedding will take place July 26 at the Blanco Church of Christ.

Brother Raymond DeSpain of Austin will officiate.

Ever Catch an Eel?

June 27, 1969

Martin Sauceda could hardly believe his eyes while he was fishing off the old Highway Bridge Friday night.

He hooked a 25 ½ inch eel and reported that this was the firs he had ever seen. Other outdoorsman in the area consider an eel a rarity in this area.

Library to be Closed Independence day

June 27, 1969

The Blanco Library will be closed on Friday, July 4th, Independence Day holiday.
