Celebrate the Independence Day weekend in Fredericksburg on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, with live parimutuel horse racing and dancing under the stars at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds.
Sponsored by the Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, the two-day July 4th Racing Festival will feature thoroughbred and quarter horse racing on Saturday and Sunday at the five-eighths mile oval at the Class III track.
A dance featuring the music of Josh Peek will take place on Saturday night from 8pm to midnight on the outdoor pavilion at the Fairgrounds. There will be a break for the fireworks display, which will be launched from nearby Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park.
Gates open at 11am and post time is 1pm daily.
Admission to the race meet is $5 for adults, $1 for children six to 12 years of age and free for children under six.
Box seats are available in the grandstand for $9 each.
A summer season pass, which is good for all Fair association-sponsored events at the Fairgrounds this summer, is available for $30 each.
Admission to the dance is $5 at the gate, $1 for children six to 12 and free for children under six.
Highlighting the racing program on Saturday, July 4, will be the Texas Quarter Horse Association Futurity Trails. Finals for that 350-yard race will be run on July 18.
Also on the weekend’s program is the 440-yard Hill Country Dash (John Deere Bonus Challenge Race) on Sunday, July 5.
In addition to live racing, simulcast wagering is offered in the biergarten at the Fairgrounds and at The Race Barn, located at the main entrance to the Fairgrounds.
The July 4th Racing Festival opens the eight-day summer season at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds.
After the July 4th Racing Festival, the season continues with the Fredericksburg Texas Fest Race Meet on July 18-19, the Gillespie County Race Meet on August 8-9 and on August 22-23 as part of the 121st Gillespie County Fair, which runs August 20-23.
With the summer season underway, the Fair Association has also announced the entertainers for the 121st Gillespie County Fair along with a new event on the schedule.
Featured on Friday night, August 21 will be Darrell McCall and the Tennessee Volunteers.
On Saturday, August 22, Jake Hooker and The Outsiders will open for Gary P. Nunn.
The concerts/dances will be held on the outdoor dance pavilion at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds from 8:30pm to 12:30am each night.
A new event added to the summer schedule will be a “Texas Wines and Texas Winners” event on Saturday, August 8, from 1-5 p.m. Featured will be 10 Texas wineries offering wine tastings, talks and more.
