Walking on Water
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 • Posted July 7, 2009

Have you tried the water yet? Have you tried to follow Jesus? Do you know Him? Do you love Him?

Jesus said “15If ye love me, keep my commandments.” John 14:15

“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?” John 14:9

Luke 9:23 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

Matthew 14:29 “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”

When Jesus told Peter “Come” Peter began to walk on water towards Him. Jesus said “Come” and he did, just like you and I. Peter had his eyes on Jesus, and was walking on water when the waves splashed against him, just like the worlds events that come up at us (such as problems, sickness, kids, and bills.) Peter called out to Jesus, and He saved him immediately.

When daily life causes us to fear, we take our eyes off of the Lord. During those times when we begin to sink, we need to call out to Him, AND read His Word, so we can be restored by renewing our minds with comforting Scriptures that build up our faith and assure us that He will take care of us, no matter what, if we seek Him.

When we’re assured by His Word, we can pray and call out to Him, without doubting, and He’ll instantly rescue us with His mighty hand. I love the Scripture that says “Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.” Psalm 73:23 Hallelujah! Even though I've been a sinning mess, He's always held me by my right hand! Hallelujah! Thank YOU Father God!

You might have another comparison, but that’s the one I like. So how do we keep our eyes on Jesus, whom we’ve never seen? Hmmm. How do you imagine that pool in your back yard that you would like to have? Imagery. Pictures in your mind, taken from magazine descriptions or pictures you’ve seen.

Here’s an image of Jesus for you.

Revelations 1:10-20 “8I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

9I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

10I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

11Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

12And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;

13And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

14His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;

15And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.

16And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

17And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

18I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

19Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

20The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.”

Now that you have an image of Jesus to focus on, keep on walking on water!
