Twelve student leaders from the Blanco High School Panther Marching Band attended band training camps preparation for this coming football season. Texas State University hosted two unique band training camps from June 21 through the 26. TSU hosted what was formerly known as the Yamaha Percussion Camp and the SASI Leadership Camp.

Blanco High School percussionists Travis Bailey, Christian Collado, Warren Gibbins, Forrest Jones, Eleanor Kirkscey, and William Torre attended the six day camp that focused on advance percussion methods to use this fall as part of the BHS. Brandon Aly, percussion instructor for BISD accompanied the students each day and participated in masterclasses and workshops as well.

The SASI band leadership camp was also held at TSU from June 21 to June 24. Andrea Torre, Elaina Woods, Simbry Montooth, and Audreanna Johnson, the Panther Band’s Auxilary Unit, attended classes designed to increase both equipment use and movement skills. Keith Baize and Jesse Troublefield, Panther Band Drum Majors, attended classes designed to increase effective student leadership, marching, and conducting skills. Each participant performed in large groups according to their skill level for the public at TSU on June 24.

The success of the Panther Band is due to the extra effort of its members as exemplified by their attendance at these TSU camps. They eagerly await the opportunity to show off their skill at Panther Stadium under the lights on Friday nights this fall.
