Wonderful readers:

Hooray and Happy Birthday to our wonderful second-in-command at the Newspaper - Jennifer!!! Her spirits have perked up at least 25% in the past year :)

Even though it is hot, hot, hot, lots of things are going on this weekend. First and foremost is Charles and Rachelle's wedding reception at 5:00 PM at BUMC, which will include barbecue from Riley's and a Dorothy Troppy cake, as well as other sumptuous desserts, I have been told. A-N side dishes, O-Z desserts. Presents are appreciated, but not necessary, as they will have to be flown back to Ft. Collins with the bride and groom. Don't forget - Miss Jewell will be here to celebrate and she is anxious to see all her friends in Blanco.

Marilyn, Lawrence and Nan Mikes were in Shiner on Sunday for the 46th Annual Mikes’ Reunion. They were joined by Debbie, Bobby, Shelby and Travis Burt of Seguin. There were 32 family units there with lots of good food and fellowship.

Market Days on the Square with Harvey Trahan singing and playing - I am hoping for "Jolie Blon" myself. Maybe there will people who will come and sit in with Harvey - he is really good. It is Night in Old Fredericksburg weekend, if you are up for polkas and beer. Gary P. Nunn is at Luckenbach.

Interesting news - we have a little bit of Austin in Blanco, with bats at our library. At 8:00 in the evenings, if you walk or drive over to the parking lot side of the library, behind the sign with the cowboy kicked back in his chair reading, we have our own mini-bat swarm. It is amazing how many bats there really are behind that sign! Just a little something to enjoy of an evening - we may start a trend!

On a sad note, our thoughts, love, and prayers go out to our mayor, Tina, who lost her brother Thursday. And give a thought to Josh Farris's family - Josh is one of the reasons we are still living free in Blanco, and I honor his family for their sacrifice.
