Democratic Group To Host Gubernatorial Candidate Tom Schieffer
Wednesday, July 15, 2009 • Posted July 14, 2009

The Kendall County Area Democratic Women will host a wine-tasting event on Saturday, July 25, 2009, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Hampton Inns and Suites (located in Boerne near Hwy 46 and IH-10). The keynote speaker will be Tom Schieffer, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Texas. In addition, Tommy Adkisson, Bexar County Commissioner for Precinct 4, and other local candidates running in the 2010 election will be present.

Ft. Worth native Tom Schieffer – whose brother is CBS newsman Bob Schieffer - is a former member of the Texas Legislature, having first been elected in 1972. He was appointed as the United States Ambassador to Australia in 2001 and the U.S. Ambassador to Japan in 2005. During his confirmation process, he received the support of senators from both parties and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate both times.

Tommy Adkisson has represented Precinct 4 on the Bexar County Commissioners Court since 1998.

The evening will feature wines selected by wine expert Sergio Ayotte of the Boerne WineSeller on River Road. Before opening the WineSeller, Ayotte was a wine consultant to Costco, the nation’s largest wine retailer, and also to HEB. Ayotte will be on hand to discuss wines with attendees. In addition, there will be food pairings to enjoy along with the variety of white and red wine selections.

The suggested contribution is $25 per person. Tickets may be reserved by contacting Claire Oxley Gluck at 210-426-7749 or via email at
