Norman J. Weaner, Sr.

Norman J. Weaner, Sr., 79 passed away on Friday, July 24, 2009 at his home in Blanco, Texas.

Norman Weaner was born on November 19, 1929 to Peter and Theresia Weaver Weaner on their farm in Sherwood, Ohio. He was the 11th child of 12 children. As a teen he worked in his mother’s restaurant before enlisting in the U.S. Army, in July 1948. He then re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force when his tour with the Army was completed. He married his wife, Nancy S. Cooke Weaner, of 42 years on January 9, 1953. He served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars before retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in August of 1969 and eventually moving his family to Blanco in November of 1972. He continued his government service at LBJ’s Ranch before working for Blanco National Bank for many years. He retired a second time to care for his ailing wife.

Norm was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He loved riding motorcycles, enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was well known in Blanco and he never met a stranger he couldn’t strike up conversation with.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 7 of his 11 siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Earl) Ringbom, daughter, Marcella Weaner, son, Charles (Sharon) Weaner, son, Norman (Dora) Weaner II, daughter, Mary (Larry) Reimann, son, Stephen (Sabrina) Weaner; brothers, William (Millie) Weaner and Paul (LouAnn) Weaner; sisters, Mary McGaharan and Rita Bowers; 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco on Monday, July 27, 2009 and will end with a Rosary Monday evening at 7:00 p.m.; a funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 28th at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. and interment will follow at the Blanco Cemetery.
