Football Practice Begins August 13
August 8, 1969
Coach B. R. Gloore has announced a meeting for the football boys at 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 13, at the gym. He said football shoes would be issued at that time and the practice sessions would be discussed.
Actual practice will begin on Monday night, August 18, at 7:00 o’clock.

The old-time fiddlers contest is once again coming to the Blanco County Fair and Rodeo.
It will be one of the highlights of Saturday afternoon. Be sure to come early to get a good sear, fiddlers will start turning up a little before 2:00pm when the official contest will begin.
Judges will listen to all the “break downs” and old favorites and then choose the winners of the different age brackets. There will be cash prizes, trophies and ribbons for the winners.
Neil Harris will again be the M.C. He will add a great listening pleasure to the entertainment of the audience.
Be sure not to miss this one!
Dee Ellis enters vet school

Dee B. Ellis of Blanco has been selected for the fall 1980 entering veterinary class at Texas A&M University.
The class will be the first to follow saw a single group the new four-year program implemented last year.
Only half the 1979-1980 entering class is following the new program while the rest continues on the three year system that had been in effect for 15 years.
Wedding plans set

Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Duncan of San Antonio announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Donna Irene, to Greg Norris, son of Mrs. Mary Ann Norris and grandson of Mr. and Mr. J.C. Wood of Blanco.
The wedding is scheduled for August 18 at 7:30pm at the Los Angeles Heights Methodist Church at 802 Catalina in San Antonio.
Blanco friends of the family are invited to attend by the bridegroom to be.

Sp 4 Glenn Lawhon, after spending a 34-day leave at home, has now been assigned to the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam.
This camp is only 18 miles from the DMZ. He has already been stationed there for several weeks and says the mountains are very pretty.

Home gardeners take notice. Let’s gather some produce for the Fair.
There are classes for peaches, pears, apples, figs, watermelons, cantaloupes, potatoes, eggplants, onions, peppers, squash, okra, beans, peas, etc..
Call the county agents’ office for a catalogue to get complete entry information. Pick up some prose money for next year’s seed costs.
Those with field crops might want to put in some wheat, oats, barley (if any made), yellow corn, white corn, pop corn, maize, etc.
Call or pick up a catalogue around town for more information.

It’s time for our Fair and Rodeo again.
We need your participation and help to make it a success. I have the county flower booth this year and I need those plants of yours to make it a special place in our fair, so fix ‘em up real pretty and bring ‘em in.
We will have Mrs. Cecil Caniness and another lady from Austin to judge for us this year.
Rules and information for the flowers will be in your fair books which are located at different places in Johnson City and Blanco.
