School Opens Tues, August 26

August 22, 1969

Pupils in the Blanco Schools will put their feet into their shoes, sharpen their pencils and head back to school on Tuesday, August 26, for a full day’s session. High school students registered this week and elementary pupils will register on Tuesday. Members of the faculty will report for a day of preparation on Monday, August 25.

One new faculty member has been employed, but the position of band director remains open. Other faculty members were employees of the district during the 1968-1969 terms.

Jo Nell Winn, Mrs. Joe Haas

August 17, 1979

Miss Jo Nell Winn became the bride of Mr. Joe Haas July 28 in St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church.

Father Clement Baron officiated in the double ring ceremony.

The organist was Miss Cindy Dowdy.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Winn, Jr. and the groom is the son of Sheriff and Mrs. And Mrs. W.J. Haas of Blanco.

The bride, who entered with her father, wore a formal gown with Empire waist and V-neck, trimmed with lace, seed pearls, and satin ribbons.

33 Boys Out For Football This Season

August 22, 1969

Coach B.R. Gloor reported that 33 boys are out for football practice this week, getting in readiness for the 1969 season of the Blanco Panther team.

Mr. Gloor stated that a scrimmage with Bertram will be played on the Blanco field at 7:00 p.m. on August 29.

All Stars take third place

August 21, 1980

The Blanco County All Stars placed third in two recent Little League baseball tournaments.

During the first tournament, held at Marble Falls, the Blanco County All Stars beat Liberty Hill 4-1, lost to Marble Falls 2-1 and beat Lampasas 13-2. Named All Tournament were Eddie Calzoncit and Robert Upshaw.

The following week the All Stars again finished third in Fredericksburg by losing to Boerne 4-1 and 6-1 and beating Mason 6-1.

Named All Tournament nament were Ray Martinez, Scott Grote and Robert Upshaw.

American Legion To Hold Barbecue

August 22, 1969

The American Legion Post 352 will hold a barbecue at Johnston Park on Saturday, August 23, at 6:00 p.m.

All members and families are cordially invited.

House members are available from Blanco Lions

August 17, 1979

The Blanco Lions Club has recently sold house numbers as part of the fund-raising project on street signs for Blanco.

The numbers have been received and are ready to be picked up. Lion Oren Sublett will be near the Post Office from nine until noon Saturday morning, August 18.

Bass Club

August 21, 1980

The night tournament sponsored by the Blanco County Bass Club was held in July with the Evans brothers taking top honors. Bud got the heaviest stringer, weighing in at 5 pounds 1 ounces and brother Roger took the trophy for the biggest bass (3 pounds, 2 ounces).

Carol Lipke won the ladies division.

In the non-tournament contest for July Bob Kittle won with a nice bass weighing 5 pounds 2 ounces.

The club’s next tournament will be August 24 at Lake LBJ starting at daylight and running until 2:00 p.m.
