Gilbert Roy “Sweet Pete” Uecker

Gilbert Roy “Sweet Pete” Uecker, born May 14, 1929 in Blanco County, TX, died August 31, 2009 at LBJ Medical Center, Johnson City, TX. The son of Emil and Alma Uecker, Pete is survived by his sister Lillian J. Wideman (Suzy) and three nephews; Jim Fairchild and wife Katy, Roy Fairchild and wife Debbie, Mark Fairchild and wife Mary and many other great nieces and nephews.

Pete loved to hunt and teach kids to hunt, play 42, and fish. He loved collecting clocks and was always willing to help others. Pete never met a stranger; he would tell you a story whether you wanted to hear it or not. Pete was known as the unofficial greeter at the LBJ Medical Center. He was such a giving and caring person. Pete served our country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a ranch hand at numerous ranches all around Central Texas, worked at numerous other jobs around the area as well and retired from Pedernales Electric Coop. He will surely be missed by family and friends. His stories will be retold time and time again. We love you Sweet Pete.

Visitation will be 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Friday, September 4, 2009 at Crofts Funeral Home, Johnson City where funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday morning. Interment will follow in Rocky Creek Cemetery.
