In Matthew 8:1-3 a man approached Jesus, believing in his heart that Jesus could heal him, and even said “you can heal me, if you’re willing. So Jesus did. The man received his healing because he believed Jesus could. He just wasn’t sure if Jesus was WILLING.
“1 Large crowds followed Jesus as he came down the mountainside. 2 Suddenly, a man with leprosy approached him and knelt before him. “Lord,” the man said, “if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.”
3 Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!” And instantly the leprosy disappeared.”
Maybe some people need to be reassured that Jesus is willing to heal us, too. Hmmm, now what pages could we turn to in our bibles to find that? A search for God’s will might work, or we could research the promises of God, like in Deuteronomy 28!
As for myself, I’ll just continue reading about the many times Jesus healed people, and what He said to them. I believe He’s talking to us, too.
It’s important to note what He told us in Matthew, Chapter 7 “21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’ ”
It’s also important to remember what He said after He performed all the miracles, in John 14:12 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”
And now, on to some miracles! A Roman officer believed that Jesus could heal his servant, so he came to Him and begged Him heal him, in Matthew 8:5-13, and He did.
“13 Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.” Mt. 8:13
In Matthew 9:18 a man’s daughter died, but he believed Jesus could raise her from the dead, and so he came to Jesus and asked Him to raise her from the dead. He believed enough to ask Him, and by golly Jesus did. The woman with the issue of blood said if only she could touch His garment, she believed she would be healed, and she was. It’s all in Matthew 9:18-26.
In Matthew 9:27-30 “ 27 After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”
28 They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?”
“Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.”
29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” 30 Then their eyes were opened, and they could see! Jesus sternly warned them, “Don’t tell anyone about this.”
Jesus asked them if they believed He could heal them, and because they did, they received their sight. Jesus even told them it was because of their faith that they were healed.
Get the picture? Remember Jesus said all these things and greater things, we would do, too.
Matthew 10:1 tells us that “Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.” And Christians have that same authority by and in the name of Jesus.
But, back then when Jesus was around there were people healing and casting out demons in His name, and do you remember what He said about those who were not obeying His commands? See Matthew 7:21-23 above. And have you read where Jesus said the devil can cast out demons, too, in Luke 11:19? You might want to find your pastor if you’re confused. In fact, it might be fun if you, pinned him or her down and discussed this with them. It’s all there in RED and white!
As for me, I just believe it’s God who is our healer, because it is written in Exodus 15:26 “26And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.”
You see? It’s God who heals. The bible shows us that all we have to do is BELIEVE enough to approach Him, like the people in the bible did, and then ask, believing He can & will.
Remember the man in verse 2 of Matthew 8 above? He said “Lord, if you’re willing…” Don’t you know that Jesus is still willing? Isaiah 53:5 “5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.”
Jesus was whipped so we all could be healed. It was prophesized, fulfilled, and so it is. We just need to believe it, ask for it and receive it. Psalm 84:11:“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.”
