Until today’s paper came, it seemed that there were no Obama supporters in Blanco County. Thank you, Ms. Evans and Mr. Arnosky, for your letter to the editor. While Ms. Evans is unknown to me, I have long admired Pam and Frank Arnosky as model parents, successful farmers, and energetic dancers. I take his criticism seriously and am motivated by them to re-examine my own positions. In the interest of space, I will limit my rebuttal to only one of the several criticisms made.
Dick Cheney is a hero.
He stayed inside the ridiculous bounds imposed on him and still saved our country from terrorist attack for 8 years. Waterboarding is a college freshman’s initiation compared to the enhanced interrogation techniques employed in WWII. I believe I am alive today because a courageous intelligence officer realized the urgency and extracted vital information from captured Japanese and acted on that intelligence within seconds.
But that was a different war, a different time, wasn’t it, Frank? It was a war between two sovereign nations, fought by uniformed soldiers. This is a war between one nation and one ideology whose soldiers are not in uniform. War is war and you win wars by killing the enemy. But first, you have to find them, and that is what Cheney did. The war that Cheney and Bush declared is still going on, but it seems to have slipped the minds of the people. It will surface again and we are stuck with a Commander-in-Chief who spends his time apologizing to our enemies and is systematically dismantling our intelligence-gathering facilities while building an Imperial Guard (Acorn), dedicated to protecting him and not the country.
And finally, Ms. Evans, it is my wish that you enjoy a long and healthy life, without the need of health care.
