LiveStrong Riders Stop in Blanco
Wednesday, October 24, 2007 • Posted October 23, 2007

Riders for the LiveStrong Challenge coasted into Blanco's "Power Stop" on October 14. At least 200 participants, of about 3,500 who came through the area, stopped at The Deustch Apple. Blanco was the sixth stop and mile 52 of the 90 mile trek–there were also 10-mile, 40-mile, and 60-mile treks. Riders were from all over the country.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation supplied snacks, water, and Gatorade at every pit stop. Christine Cooksey of Kingsland was the captain of the Blanco stop. Each stop had a theme and Blanco’s was the 1950's. Volunteers dressed in poodle skirts, pedal pushers, bobby socks, and tennies. One older couple drove up in their 50's vehicle, parked it, and watched cyclists come in.

The Deustch Apple generously provided their property as a stop, and goodies for the volunteers. The Chamber of Commerce had a banner welcoming the bicyclists to the Lavender Capital of Texas. Relay For Life cheered on every cyclist.
