With the help of an LCRA grant, the Blanco Little League has again made significant changes to their complex. This time, the league has built shade cover over all three of their field spectator areas. “We are very excited to have this facility improvement project completed. We feel that this was the exclamation point of our multi-year facility improvement plan,” says Bill Savarino, President of the Blanco Little League. “If you have not seen the complex lately, please drive by and see all the improvements that we have made with the money that our league has had to work with.” This project also completed the 2008-2009 Blanco Little League Board’s season. The new 2009-2010 Board was announced and voted in on September 20, 2009. “I want to thank every single person that ever volunteered a minute of their time to the Blanco Little League,” says Savarino. “Some people just don’t understand the time and commitment it takes to complete a season unless you have been there. I can honestly say that I have been very lucky to have had such good boards over the last three years that I have been President. Without every individual contributing, it is impossible to have any success.”
Savarino also said that over the last 3 years, through community registrations, donations, fundraising, and volunteering, the League was able to improve the facility to the level that the Blanco Little League now has one of the nicest Little League complexes not only in the district, but in the region. “We can walk away knowing that our Board made significant improvements to our League over the last several years. Is it perfect and not need additional improvements? Absolutely not. I have learned that all you can do is your best with what you have to work with. That is exactly what we have done. We have raised and spent a lot of money for our kids and our community.”
Projects that have occurred over the last 3 years include the new shade structures for all three fields, new boys’ field lights, a new website, new boys’ field fencing, recently enclosed trash bin area, new flag poles for two fields, blue windscreen and yellow tubing for all three fields, new sod for girls field, new press box for girls field, new chipped asphalt parking lots for girls field and boys field, buried post to outline parking lots, new concreted boys batting cage, new T-Ball and Coach Pitch field with decorative retaining walls, brought in city water to the restrooms, new ice machine for concession stand as well as many others. “Again, thank you to everyone that helped make our league a success. My three years were a lot of fun, but now new ideas by the new Board will make it even better.”
