Senior Expo to be Held at Gem of the Hills

Community Action, Inc. and Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Blanco County invite Blanco County residents to the Senior Expo on Thursday, October 22, at Gem of the Hills Community Center. Popular local speakers will be presenting programs related to Senior lifestyles. The event is free of charge, thanks to generous donors.

Exhibitors will be available throughout the morning for information about products and services that may help address your specific health needs and interests. Blood pressure, weight and oxygen screenings will be available.

Schedule:

• 8:45am-Check in, pick up goody bags

• 9am-Light Exercise program, presented by Connie and the Exercise Class of Gem of the Hills

• 9:30am-Snacks provided by Barbara Gourley, Patient Care Coordinator for Texas Healthcare Solutions

• 10-10:45am-Session I (choose one):

*Gardening from Your Doorstep, presented by Jim Meadows of the Blanco County Master Gardeners. Jim says that everyone can garden regardless of their mobility and strength. He will show you to plant a raised bed garden, how to start a container garden and give information on Earth Kind plants. Jim will even show you how to grow lettuce in your own kitchen!

*Aging in Place, presented by Nancy Giesalhart of Texas Home Health. Home health care is a service that permits patients to receive personalized health care, maintaining their quality of life in the privacy and comfort of their homes. Nancy will walk you through the four steps of Aging in Place: 1. Utilizing long term care through the Dept. of Aging and Disability, 2. Skilled professionals to teach, guide and assist with client care. 3. Assisting clients to community resources. 4. Assisting Family and Caregivers with patient care.

• Break and Snack, provided Combined Community Action

• 11-11:45 am - Session II (choose one):

*Collections, presented by Angela Fiedler, Kendall County Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Sciences. Angela will show you creative ways to exhibit your collections as home decor. She will bring examples and teach you how to get your junk out of hiding.

*Family History, presented by Gretchen Sanders, Blanco County Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Sciences. Gretchen will provide you with a Family History Questionnaire and give you tips on interviewing family members. You will be able to record your family’s stories and memories after attending this session.

• Lunch, provided by Texas Home Heath

• 1pm-Games, 42 and Bingo Tournaments
