Pooch Parade Planned for Finale
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 • Posted October 13, 2009

Friends of the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library will host a Pooch Parade and Dog Treat Bake-off as the final event for this year’s book selection, Marley & Me. On Saturday, October 24 the activities will begin at 10:30am at the library. Bring your dog, have a photo made, and parade in front of the judges. You might also consider entering the Dog Treat Bake-off or just enjoy watching the action.

Other remaining One Book events include a 6:00pm book discussion and meal at Riposa Bistro on Tuesday, October 13. Friday Nights at the Movies are set for October 16 and October 23 at 7:00pm. My Dog Skip featuring a Jack Russell Terrier will be shown on the 16th and Marley & Me will repeat on the 24th.

Cathy Stevenson presented information on therapy dogs Saturday, October 3. She brought four of her mini-doxies who are all certified through Therapy Dogs International. She explained how the dogs provide comfort and affection to people in hospitals, nursing homes, to school children with learning problems, and in a variety of other situations. Stevenson chose her Dachshund mixes because they are smart, friendly, and have easy maintenance coats. She said, “There is something different about holding a dog and looking closely into their brown eyes.”

All One Book events will be held at the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library and the program is made possible by a grant from the Wachovia Foundation. For further information, visit the library’s website at www.bsb.lib.tx.us or call the library at 830-430-4864.
