New Braunfels Christian Academy came to Blanco to test the unbeaten Panthers, but it proved to be another shutout win for Blanco. After receiving the opening kick, Logan Dodd broke several tackles on the third play from scrimmage and raced 55 yards for the first TD. The PAT failed, and Blanco was up 6-0. The Panthers quickly forced a 3 and out and went back to work on offense. Aikman Elrod connected with Devlin Moore on two passes for 53 yards down to the two yard line, and from there Elrod bulled in for the second TD. Carson Kipp punched in the PAT, and the Panthers led 14-0. Academy ran the next three plays for minus 19 yards and punted, and Devlin Moore then rushed for 29 yards on two carries for the third TD of the game, putting the Panthers up 20-0. Austin Andrews recovered an Academy fumble to end the half.
In the third quarter, stout defense again forced a 3 and out, but the snap for the punt went into the end zone, and Dylan Bates recovered it for another score. Carson Kipp rushed in for the PAT, and the Panthers held a 28-0 lead, which would be the final score. Grant Garrow, Alex Juarez, Dru Ramirez, and Grant Calzoncit all played stellar defense in holding Academy to two first downs and 53 yards of total offense on the day.
The 8th Grade faced their toughest team of the season in the San Antonio Christian Academy Lions, a TAPPS 3A school. The Lions came in at 6-1, with their only loss of the season to class 4A Dripping Springs.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle, with Blanco stopping the Lions on three fourth down attempts. Brian Brecka, Mason LeBlanc, Jubal Elrod, and Tyler Clark all played exceptional defense in holding the Lions scoreless in the first half. The Lions were equally defensive, keeping Blanco from mounting any drives, and at halftime it was a 0-0 ballgame.
In the third quarter, the Lions broke free on a 35-yard TD run and converted the PAT for an 8-0 lead. A fumble deep in Panther territory set up the Lions for another quick score, but the defense held on the PAT attempt, giving the Lions a 14-0 lead. Blanco responded quickly, as David Ramirez exploded on a 61-yard TD run on a counter up the middle, cutting the lead to 14-6 at the end of the third quarter. The Lions again drove the field and scored on another long run and, with the conversion, went up 22-6. The Panthers responded again, this time with Alex Palos connecting with David Ramirez on a 44-yard halfback pass for a TD. The critical PAT attempt failed, leaving the Lions up 22-12. Blanco attempted an onside kick, but the Lions recovered. The Panthers fought hard and never gave up the entire game, but the Lions were able to run out the clock, giving the Panthers their first loss of the season. Both 7th and 8th grade teams will travel to Harper on Thursday for the final game of the season.
