Bulverde/Spring Branch Library Showcases Butterfly Garden
Wednesday, November 11, 2009 • Posted November 10, 2009

Would you like the pleasure of seeing beautiful butterflies visit your garden? Do you know which flowers or shrubs attract them? For inspiration, visit the Bulverde/Spring Branch Library’s butterfly garden designed and planted last spring (behind the library, with breathtaking views of the countryside).

A dedicated committee nurtured the garden through the hot, dry summer and recent rains provided growth spurts, giving the butterflies a feast of nectar.

Dozens of trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, grasses, and flowers were carefully selected to attract various kinds of butterflies that inhabit the area. Some were chosen as host plants and others for food and shelter.

The Friends have published a brochure listing the names of each and a list of books for additional information on the topic.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Library in cooperation with the Master Gardeners of Comal County, the Bulverde and River Crossing Garden Clubs, and Girl Scout Troops, the butterfly garden was recently certified by the North America Butterfly Association (NABA).
