Dear Editor:

I just finished reading my Blanco newspaper. I really enjoyed reading the articles regarding the Trainer and Rust families. I particularly enjoyed the Rust family article, since I also attended the Mount View School in the fourth grade. I remember the students taking turns carrying the “water bucket” to Cicero Rust’s house to get drinking water for our school. We had a “water dipper” in the bucket that we all drank from.

I don’t remember who all went to school there when I did; however, I do remember Dorris (Massey) Hallenberger went there. She would get the caterpillar webs off the trees and put them all over me. I would run and scream, and to this day, I cannot stand for a tree worm or a bug to get on me. Lila Bagby and I rode to school with Ms. Edmonson, who was our teacher. Virgina (Preiss) Jung rode a horse to school. I started to school at the Blanco Elementary School in the fifth grade. The fifth and sixth grades were taught in the same room. Fifth grade on one side of the room and sixth grade on the other side. All country schools were discontinued at this time. Thanks CA for the article. It brought back old memories.

Sincerely,

Faye (Adams) Thorp

Gatesville, TX
