Wednesday, April 9, 2008 • Posted April 8, 2008

The San Antonio Livestock Exposition proved extremely successful for several local FFA members as the Blanco FFA was well represented in what has proven to be the largest livestock show in the world.

In the junior breeding gilt show, Blanco FFA member Alisa Guler would place 5th and 6th with her Hampshire and Yorkshire gilts. Alisa would also fair well the following week in the steer show placing 6th with her Brangus steer.

The second week of the show would find many more local exhibitors bringing home ribbons. Leading the way would be Quaid Haack with a 2nd place Spotted Poland China market barrow as well as Blanco Junior FFA member Logan Dodd with a 4th place Poland China. Also placing in the top 15 of the barrow show were Keaton Dodd with a Chester White and Laney Lathom with a Yorkshire.

The junior market lamb show would also prove successful for 5 local FFA members with Junior FFA member Ryan Edwards bringing home the highest ribbon with a 3rd place Cross, while Victoria Jones would do well placing 5th in the Medium Wools in addition to also placing a meat goat in the top 35 earlier that week. Also placing lambs were Lisa Dechert with a 7th place South Down, Mindy Dechert with a 7th place Cross, and Cody Harvey with an 11th place Cross and also an 11th place Limousin steer.

Overall, Blanco FFA members and Blanco Junior FFA members would bring home more than $20,000 in premium sales.

Advisors for the Blanco FFA and Blanco Junior FFA are Jason and Felice Marek.
